Hello my fit-minded friends! Working in the world of fitness, I get lots of questions about the optimal way to energize before a workout. And while there is no one-size-fits-all approach, I do recommend most to do the following before hitting a 60+ minute yoga flow:
(1) HYDRATE
AND
(2) EAT A CARBOHYDRATE-RICH SNACK
Even if you’re not someone who typically sweats up a storm, drinking plenty of fluids before hand can help you avoid dehydration during and after your workout. (Water is just so wonderful!)
And before I head to my yoga class, I like to fuel up with wholesome foods that will power my body with the nutrition it needs so I can give it my all during a flow. I find this especially essential if it’s been a few hours since I last ate. Those carbohydrates can help your muscles go, go, go! I’m obsessed with packing Apple Pie LARABARs in my gym bag. And I’m such a fan of these food facts. 1 bar is…
- just under 200 calories
- contains tons of heart-healthy MUFAs & PUFAs
- has minuscule amounts of sodium (a biggie for me!)
- is high in fibes! (that’s fiber ;))
- and even has a few grams of protein
It’s the perfect little portable pre-yoga snack that keeps me going from start to shavasana!
At LARABAR®, we believe that the foundation of a sound mind, body and spirit is derived from what you eat – and what you eat is most delicious and satisfying when it’s in a whole, natural state.
What’s your favorite LARABAR to snack on before yoga?
XOxo,
