Let’s be honest, foods don’t always act in our favor.  And it can be pretty fuzzy when it comes to knowing whether or not the occasional tummy trouble could mean something more serious.  Here are some gastrointestinal symptoms to watch out for that could warrant further investigation by your primary health care provider…

WHEN-STOMACH-ISSUES-MIGHT-BE-MORE-SERIOUS

Symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome vary from person to person, but typically include 1 or more of the following:

  • abdominal pain
  • bloatedness
  • constipation
  • cramping
  • diarrhea
  • gassiness

Symptoms of Crohn’s Disease often include:

  • abdominal pain
  • constipation
  • cramping
  • decreased appetite
  • diarrhea
  • fatigue
  • fever
  • loss of menstrual cycle
  • night sweats
  • rectal bleeding
  • urgent bowel movements
  • weight loss

Symptoms of Ulcerative Colitis may present as:

  • abdominal pain
  • bloody stools
  • cramping
  • decreased appetite
  • diarrhea
  • fatigue
  • loose bowel movements
  • urgent bowel movements
  • weight loss

As you can see, several of the symptoms overlap so it’s difficult to assess the real underlying issue causing you GI distress.  Be sure to communicate with your primary health care provider if you suspect your tummy troubles might be something more.
