Cajun Crab Dip with Imitation Crab Meat Appetizer

Most people don’t realize that imitation crab is actually a white fish and typically Alaskan pollock fish.  It looks like fake crab and has the flavor or crab, however, it is a lean protein that is ready to eat.

Imitation crab doesn’t require cooking, therefore, it is an easier option than real crab when it comes to a quick appetizer.

Not to mention, imitation crab meat is much less cost than real lump crab meat.  Therefore, it is the perfect appetizer for a party on a budget.

Cajun Hot Crab Dip Recipes with Imitation Crab

Most cajun hot crab dip recipes have the following ingredients: cream cheese softened, creole seasoning, and onion or green onion.  The following ingredients are found in some cajun crab dip recipes as an additional flavor or garnish: worcestershire sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, and green onion.

Liquid crab boil is what I used in this imitation crab dip.  The reason why I used the liquid crab boil is because it adds an element of flavor that tastes like boiled seafood.  If you do not have liquid crab boil, you can use old bay seasoning to get a similar flavor.

Keeping the Imitation Crabmeat Dip Warm

Keeping the imitation crabmeat dip warm is simple by using a couple of pieces of equipment.  However, don’t stress, the dip is great after it cools as well.

Here are some great ways to keep the dip warm. Use the following kitchen equipment keeping a warm temperature:

  • slow cooker
  • crock pot
  • cast iron skillet
I just served it into a dish with chips as well when we were ready to eat.

What to Serve with Cajun Crab Dip Recipes

Have you seen a thick seafood dip served in a crusty bread bowl?  This is one of the best ideas for a functional bowl for a hot or cold dip.

However, you can serve this cajun imitation crab dip in a baking dish or straight from the slow cooker.

  • Ritz crackers
  • Saltine crackers
  • Multigrain Tortilla Chips
  • Triscuits
  • Celery
  • Sliced cucumber
  • Carrots

Cold Cajun Crab Dip Ideas

This cajun crab dip with imitation crab can be served cold if you prefer. Personally, I think it tastes better warm or hot.

In addition, if you have leftover crab dip, place it into an airtight container to store in the refrigerator.  The next day, try the dip cold out of the refrigerator for a whole different flavor profile.
